Jam Session: Monday Night Groove

I often get the opportunity to jam with a lot of different musicians from all over. Monday night I had the pleasure of writing with Tom Sharp and Gabe Peyton. We were in great company with fellow sax player Orhan and my videographer/photographer Tanica B who actually just happened to be mooching grilled chicken off our mutual friend Gabe. We started off the night with some delicious grilled chicken and salad, played some catch football in the street on Capitol Hill, then headed to the 2nd floor of a century-old row house to dive into the sweet tunes. Gabe and Tom, on acoustic and electric guitars , came up with this wicked little riff. I sat down to a drum set to pace out a nice little fusion beat. we rotated instruments a few times as we worked but while sitting on drums, I began working out a hook to what we were messing around with and then it happened! Songwriters know the feeling when you utter a line and then another and another until lyrics and melodies are flowing out of you like volcanic lava. It feels so good to create new music and it only gets better when you’re collaborating with other artists! The song “Just Let Go” was born.

The hook was totally spontaneous but it resonated so strong with Tom that he shared a story about how he and a girl were in love while back but the timing was always off for them to get together so they had to tempt The Fates to get together. The song is his story… To hear the rest of the it, you’ll have to wait for the track to drop!
