#TBT: MySoulBeing

My laptop screen was severely damaged this past weekend on a trip to Atlanta. I was totally blasted but I was also happy because I’d backed up almost all of my music projects that I’d been working on for the last two years fairly regularly. I changed the setup of my studio too to make it a little more conducive to plug and and play protocol since I seem to be on the go more often. During the back up process I listened to an entire jazz-soul album I worked on with Bobby “The Rose” Biddle (God rest his soul). My music has made a seen some serious evolution over the last 15 years. I guess writing from a young age will do that to your sound, however, I noticed that there is a very distinct foundation that I write on that can be found in even my oldest pieces. I wish I’d started recording my work even earlier to have more to compare it to. Even my influences shined through my work, Badu, Hendrix, Byrd, Coltrane, Outkast, P-FunkJames Brown, MJ... you can hear little inflections and runs that show I’ve been listening to Motown since I was 12 all through my music! It made me smile inside to hear my very own sound in its early form: rumbling basslines, metaphoric lyrics, and soulish minor chords and melodies. This new album Digital Sage, is going to be amazing! Until then you can listen to this:
